Employers pledged to create dozens of new jobs in Cornwall at a packed business growth event last week which was vigorously supported by Falmouth and Truro MP Sarah Newton.

The Cornwall Apprenticeship Agency’s seminar at Kingsley Village, Fraddon, highlighted a new service available to Cornish businesses that enables them to grow their workforce at a reduced risk and cost.

Attending businesses immediately took the chance to sign up for the popular scheme, which has created 150 apprenticeship placements within the past nine months.

The Cornwall Apprenticeship Agency (CAA) provides a unique service to businesses by creating tailored recruitment and skills solutions for companies looking to expand. It can even employ the apprentice on their behalf, removing barriers to growth commonly experienced by small businesses.

Sarah Newton MP, a keen advocate of the CAA’s services, told the audience: “This Agency really comes into its own when employers want to recruit someone but they are nervous about how and where to start. It is unique in that it provides a one-stop-shop and is able to employ the person on your behalf.”

She personally thanked the businesses for their vision for growth during some tough economic times, and for their commitment to creating job opportunities for people in Cornwall.

The CAA’s specialist advisors help take the hassle out of recruitment by sourcing the right candidate, handling the administration and short-listing process, and helping businesses access grant funding.

Employer Nigel Buxton, of Primary PC Solutions, recruited apprentice Samson Clark through the CAA’s services. He said: “We have gained a good apprentice who has been matched to our exact needs. Engaging the services of the Cornwall Apprenticeship Agency has allowed us to continue our business activities without being bogged down by the whole recruitment process.
